Meet Adelle Gervin, Program Manager with Agriculture in the Classroom – Manitoba.

Adelle is passionate about educating students on the importance of agriculture and how it affects our everyday lives. She says, “This industry provides so many opportunities, I hope all students can see themselves pursuing a career in agriculture.”

She runs a program that we’re featuring for Earth Day called Journey 2050 for Grades 7 to 12 students–  a virtual farm simulation that explores world food sustainability. She also runs Explore Digital Agriculture for Grades 7 to 9, a presentation to help students learn about the exciting elements of digital agriculture and the careers associated with this area.  

In celebration of Earth Day, Adelle will be joining students at Miles Macdonell Collegiate for Earth Week, taking place at their school from April 18 - 22nd. 

Other events included:

Monday - Bookcycling bin launch
Tuesday - Clothing swap
Wednesday / Thursday - Providing locally sourced ice coffee 
Friday - A variety of speakers, workshops, and activities for students and staff

Teachers will have the opportunity to sign up their classes for in-person and virtual workshops facilitated community organizations by that will be focusing on topics related to sustainability. Topics include Community Clean-up, Composting and Vermiculture, and more.

There is also a week-long Bee Sustainable campaign for teachers to hand out green tickets to students who they see exhibiting sustainable behaviour. For example, students who are seen; recycling, composting, reusing items, riding their bike to school, etc. There are two draws each day to reward the winners.
