Every student remembers an educator who made learning feel real. Not just something to study, but something to experience. Across Manitoba, we see educators doing exactly that with agriculture. They plant classroom gardens and let students taste what they grow. They bring students to events like Ag Days so they can see the industry up close. They use AITC-M resources in creative ways, adapting them to spark deeper conversations about food, sustainability, careers, and community. They create space for honest discussions about how students are connected to agriculture every single day.
When educators are recognized as Educator Champions for Agriculture in the Classroom - Manitoba, it is not because they checked a box or delivered one strong lesson. It is because agriculture becomes part of how learning happens in their classroom. Students explore where their food comes from, wrestle with real questions about environmental impact and innovation, and begin to understand the people and decisions behind what ends up on their plates. Those experiences shift thinking. They influence how students talk at home, what questions they ask, and how they see their place in Manitoba’s future.
In a province where agriculture is foundational to our economy and communities, educators play a critical role in shaping informed, thoughtful citizens. Meaningful agricultural education does not happen by accident. It happens because a teacher chooses to make it experiential, relevant, and connected to real life.
The AITC-M Educator Champion Award recognizes one Manitoba teacher each year who is creating this kind of impact. The recipient receives a $500 cash prize to support their classroom along with public recognition at an AITC-M event, celebrating their leadership and the difference they are making for students.
If you know an educator who brings food and farming to life, who creates hands-on experiences, or who is helping students understand their connection to agriculture in deeper ways, we invite you to nominate them.
