Virtual Farm Tours

Join us for the fourth season of our Follow the Farmers virtual farm tour program!

This program is designed to connect best to grades 3, 4, and 5 curriculum.

Topics & Event Dates (2024/25)

Overbys_CircleEvent 1: Follow the Bison Farmer

Join us as we tour Overby Bison Farm, located just north of Winnipeg near Teulon, MB. Students will learn:

  • How the Overby's care for their herd and ensure they are healthy, including what they eat and drink, their habitat, and how bison live off the land but also give back to it.
  • The importance bison continue to have to Indigenous Peoples in Manitoba and across Canada.
  • The nutrition bison meat provides us and the many other products bison help to produce.

Then, extend the learning in your classroom by having students work through a bison art activity!

Brent_Oswald_CircleEvent 2: Follow the Corn Farmer 

Brent Oswald is excited to welcome you to his farm, Cottonweed Feeds, just southeast of Winnipeg. Students will learn all about corn, including planting, crop care, harvest, and the many uses of corn — from food to feed and fuel to fibre.

Then, extend the learning in your classroom with our corn classroom activity!

Ian_April_Steppler_CircleEvent 3: Follow the Bee Farmer

We are taking students out to Miami, MB to visit Steppler Honey. Ian and his daughter, April, will teach students all about honeybees — from how they care for their hives, the work honeybees do, and how they harvest delicious honey!

Then, extend the learning in your classroom with a fun, interactive "Skittle Bee Dance" activity with your students.
